Over time, the Devices section of your adam:ONE® Dashboard may accumulate a burden of devices that are not relevant to day-to-day operations. This happens chiefly because device detection is thorough, but devices are never automatically forgotten- even if they are no longer part of the network.
Although the Dashboard does provide ways using the main Devices tab, to sort, select and edit multiple devices, there has not been a consistent and efficient way to identify and purge excess Devices.
The addition of the new Devices Cleanup tool should prove to be a real enhancement, by sharpening the focus on active network devices. This increased level of organization will in turn boost the confidence of Admins in managing and securing their networks.
The Cleanup tool may be conveniently accessed by the familiar “Devices” link on the main menu, and then by following through to the “Cleanup” tab:
The main view of the Cleanup tool highlights the Device capacity of the network, and displays the Filter options, which give a good level of granular control on inactive Devices:
Inactive devices are filtered primarily by Policy: select either All Policies or an individual Policy, by clicking on the dropdown menu, as shown in this example:
Continuing in this example, selecting the Holding Tank policy gives a visual demonstration of the effect of cleanup. In this case, 6% of the Dashboard capacity would be recovered:
Adjusting the filter for Inactivity time, Unmodified Devices, or Randomized MACs, will correspondingly adjust the number of devices previewed for cleanup (as applicable).
The Fixed MAC tag reflects devices that were initially tagged with Random MAC, and showed persistent activity on the network. The inactivity filter can be broadened to include Fixed MAC devices that were more established network entities, i.e. greater than 14 days.
Pressing the Review button will bring you to a final screen which lists each device that is now scheduled for cleanup. Here, individual devices may be de-selected by using the checkboxes, before the final device cleanup operation.
Once you are satisfied with the preview, click the Clean Up button. Alternatively, click the Back button to adjust the filter settings.
