Users are automatically logged out of the dashboard when the browser expires the session cookie. Generally this is when you close your browser, although this can vary between browsers.
There is not a way to adjust this.
Interesting.
It used to be that it would never log out.
A setting to be able to set it to something much longer, is greatly desired. Furthermore, if you could put the login ID and password on the same screen, it would save me extra clicks to fill in the field with Bitwarden (I have it set to automatic, but it never automatically fills in*)
*I even have setup linked fields for the username and password to match the HTML field ID and it doesn’t autofill
Hi @Mikey thanks for letting us know about the BitWarden issue. I’ve created an internal bug report to see if we can improve that.
I will second the request about username and password on the same screen. It will just save us precious time if we have to login constantly.
Also, in the last few weeks, I have noticed that once a login webpage has been idle for a certain amount of time, then typing the username and hitting next results in an error. The webpage must be refreshed to start the login process. is this a feature or a bug?
@Mikey in our testing we’re not having any issues with Bitwarden, it’s correctly filling both the email and password fields.
Can you perhaps give us more information such as the browser you’re using, whether you’re using anything non-standard with your Bitwarden, etc.
Perhaps also try recreating the entry in your vault.
@atw When I went back today to test, the username was filling in, but the password still always stays blank until I manually select the fill button in the Bitwarden plugin.
I’m using Brave and I don’t think there’s anything non-standard. Are you testing with Brave?
Back to the timeout issue…I just hit a usability issue with the shorter timeouts. When I make a device change (e.g. temporarily make a policy change), a little revert icon appears in the action column. I take advantage of this revert capability all the time, but if a timeout occurs, I lose all context for what I was doing including the ability to revert.
Please give me a way to set the timeout to something longer.
Thanks for the feedback.
In the meantime, if you leave the Dashboard tab open, it won’t timeout quickly. Only if you close it.
@atw I’m not sure what that means. When I click on the dashboard button, it takes me to the Policies. I then click Devices and that’s the screen I was on when I made the changes that timed out.
@atw Good news. I now see both the username and password on the same screen and they both fill in correctly with Bitwarden. Thanks for whatever you did to make that happen.
Great glad to hear. There is a risk that this change will cause new confusion for users who use Passkeys to sign in without a password, so it’s a bit of a compromise between being compatible with BitWarden’s limitations and not being too confusing for passwordless login.
I use a yubikey, without a password, and it seems to work just fine even with this new change, even though the password fills itself in.
