Forget Devicers

How do I forget multiple devices and is it a good idea to perform this task periodically

In the dashboard go to Devices.

  • Select all by clicking in the box beside the Name header.
  • Deselect any you don’t want to forget.
  • Click on Edit.
  • From the dropdown, select Forget Devices.
  • Confirm by hitting Forget.

In most situations, there is no reason to forget devices. This will cause any settings for those devices to be lost.

Hi. I find though that there is no auto forget and I wind up with 400+ devices in the list that is no more on the network.

Hello

I would suggest there are some use cases for devices to automatically fall off the list, for instance, guest Wi-Fi at businesses and/or schools. parents and other visitors will gain access with default policies and if all is set correctly, the network admin will never need to interact with the policy per device.

A bulk Forget or an age out setting could be helpful.

Another use case could be the random mac address devices. There will be no need to retain a temporary device in the long term.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks!

Excellent post. AdamOne should look at posts and act on suggestions.

Good suggestions @WyoSupport

Regarding automatically clearing out devices labeled “Random MAC”, it’s not that clear cut because these types of MAC addresses are also used for things like Virtual Machines, Docker containers, or almost anything else that create virtual NICs.

What I’d like to see if the ability to create a rule based on one or more filters and have them auto clear based on that. Such as tags, and last time the device was detected.

The “Last Seen” would be great too! It would give us a good indicator on how likely the system would be back online, or if the policy they were assigned was changed since their last visit. Or give us a chance to demote access to older trusted devices that have been away from the network.

I was thinking since I last posted that I missed another big use case: Computers will eventually reach their lifecycle end, and never be seen again on the network. Having automatic housekeeping would be very helpful.
