It is with great discontent that we have to report that two major services with legitimate use are becoming considered as Unsafe Services for all those who are concerned about content protection.
Amazon and EBAY.
For a detailed description of the problem view this article on Medium:
It would be relatively simple for them to allow Safety Mode like Google, DuckDuckGo and Bing or YouTube currently offer. However, currently there has been a seemingly fast increase of pornographic and even what appears as CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) in their listings. These listings are increasingly showing up amongst innocent searches and could cause accidental exposure of harmful content to your users.
The solution to this problem is not complicated at all. Amazon & EBAY can easily do what other tech giants have done to help create a moderately safe environment by offering DNS enforceable Safety Mode. However, at present this is not the case yet.
It is our hope that they would step up to the plate and do what is right soon. But until then, we advise network admins with a responsibility to protect their users from harmful content to disallow these services on all devices used by those at risk. Or, at the very least, use extreme caution by allowing these on only on devices that are less at risk or on scheduled access.
We hope that both Amazon and EBAY choose to do what is right by resolving this soon.
